Main Characters

Sasami Kawai

A cheerful and energetic girl, Sasami was a typical elementary school kid until she was chosen by Tsunami to fight for love and justice as the Magical Girl Pretty Sammy. She is embarrassed and reluctant to use her magic powers for fear of being ridiculed by everyone at school. Sasami is very kind to and protective of her best friend Misao Amano, and also seems to get along very well with her parents, Ginji and Honoka.

Misao Amano

Shy and lacking in self-confidence, Misao Amano is Sasami's classmate and best friend. Misao enjoys playing piano like her pianist father, but often finds herself alone thanks to her parents' busy work schedules. Ramia chose Misao to be her champion as the flashy Magical Girl Pixy Misa, but Misao appears to retain no memories of her magical escapades.

Tsunami

A gentle (but naive and simple) young woman, Tsunami is the chosen candidate to become queen of the magical kingdom of Juraihelm. In order to prove herself, Tsunami chose the Earth girl Sasami Kawai as her champion to fight for the powers of good as Magical Girl Pretty Sammy.

Ramia

The brash and self-centered Ramia was one of the three candidates to become queen of Juraihelm. Outraged at being passed up to become queen, Ramia has enlisted her little brother Rumiya and her champion Magical Girl Pixy Misa in her secret attempt to discredit Tsunami by defeating Magical Girl Pretty Sammy.

Rumiya

Ramia's sensible younger brother, Rumiya attempts time and again to advise against his sister's crazy schemes, only to be browbeaten into becoming an unwilling accomplice. When visiting Earth, Rumiya disguises himself as a green bird. When he's not working as Pixy Misa's advisor and sidekick, Rumiya watches over Misao and tries to comfort her when she's alone and upset.

Ryo-ohki

A cute and cuddly furball, Ryo-ohki is a resident of Juraihelm that was sent by Tsunami to be Sasami's advisor and sidekick. Ryo-ohki is responsible for training Pretty Sammy to combat evil. While on earth, Ryo-ohki is disguised as a ‘cat’, but his appearance in the magical realm of Juraihelm is a mystery.

Washu Fitzgerald Kobayashi

A wacky 12-year-old super-genius from America, Washu came to Japan in order to study magical phenomenon. She is particularly interested in Pretty Sammy, and sometimes helps out Pretty Sammy with her technical skills and inventions. Washu also teaches science at Umi no Hoshi Elementary School and seems to be keeping a keen eye on Sasami - she even moves in next door!

Ginji Kawai

Handsome and good-natured, the charming Ginji is Sasami's father. A man of action, Ginji has many surprising hidden talents far beyond those of a typical salaryman; his actual job remains a mystery. Occasionally Ginji uses his amazing abilities to lend Pretty Sammy a helping hand.

Honoka Kawai

Cheerful and somewhat childish, Honoka is Sasami's mother. When not playing video games or baking giant cakes for visitors, Honoka manages the CD Vision music shop.

Mihoshi

Cheerful yet clueless, Mihoshi is Sasami's homeroom teacher. Her carefree attitude often causes fellow teacher Kiyone and even her own class to scold her. Mihoshi's bumbling attempts to help out generally cause more problems than they solve.

Kiyone Amayuri

The high-strung Kiyone is the teacher of a rival class at Sasami's school. A strict disciplinarian, Kiyone's class is perfectly behaved, but she suffers constant frustration thanks to the loud interruptions caused by Mihoshi's chaotic class. Kiyone and Mihoshi have known each other for years, and Mihoshi has caused nothing but headaches as far as Kiyone's concerned.

Konoha Haida

Egotistical and mean-spirited, Konoha is one of Sasami's classmates. She often causes trouble for Misao and Sasami at school. Konoha also has a big crush on the unwilling Hiroto Majima, and tries her best to get his attention.

Hiroto Majima

Another of Sasami's classmates, the friendly Hiroto is also a member of the soccer team and Kenji's best friend. Although Hiroto gets constant unwanted attention from Konoha, he seems more interested in the shy and gentle Misao.

Kenji Oyamada

The laid-back Kenji is one of Sasami's classmates and is Hiroto's best friend and fellow soccer team member. He's a bit girl-crazy, constantly flattering and taking pictures of the cute ladies he meets, young or old.

Eimi Date

Eimi is the loud and bossy class leader for Sasami's class. A real stickler for regulations, Eimi reminds everyone loudly and repeatedly of their necessity for following the school rules and vigorously lectures them for any violations, no matter how minor.

Kotoe Amano

Misao's mother, Kotoe has been raising Misao alone for years while her husband is touring the world as a concert pianist. While a caring and considerate mother, Kotoe's busy work schedule often keeps her from being able to spend time with her daughter.

Shigoki Amano

A concert pianist, Shigoki has been overseas for many years on concert tours. He also is a composer, and has written a song in honor of his daughter. A loving father, Shigoki feels guilty over being separated from his family for so many years, and takes every opportunity he can to visit home.

Romio

The third queen candidate, Romio is a mysterious figure who spends most of the time after being passed up for queen out of sight. Although she offers to assist Ramia in her quest to become queen, Romio's motivations and plans are unclear.

Oryo

This powerful fighter is part of the royal guard that protects the queen of Juraihelm. She is a loyal servant of Tsunami, and has volunteered to assist Pretty Sammy in her battles against Magical Girl Love Me Eimi. Like other Juraihelm residents, she uses a disguise when visiting Earth.

Juraihelm's Magical Council

This group of mysterious magical figures presides over the selection of the queen of Juraihelm. It is the council that have charged Tsunami with the task of balancing the scales of Gemini, the magical scales that measure the balance of good and evil in the world, in order to prove her worthiness to be queen. The council knows many of the secrets surrounding Juraihelm and Earth and thus also serve as advisors to the queen.

Principal Mura

The principal of Sasami's elementary school. Mura is a laid-back and easygoing fellow despite having to put up with problems from the constant squabbles between Mihoshi and Kiyone to the chaos and property damage associated with Pretty Sammy's battles against Pixy Misa.
